Halloween at Château Kahn: Gothic Halloween House Tour

It’s finally starting to feel like fall here in Indiana, which means it’s officially time to share this year’s Halloween house tour.

Step inside Château Kahn as it slips into its Halloween era. This year’s theme: overgrown gothic.

Halloween House Highlights 2025: The Walkup

This year we all have something new in our decorating toolbox: ChatGPT.

Love it or hate it, it’s certainly versatile. I had heard it could generate decorating ideas, so naturally I had to test it. I uploaded a photo of our house and asked it to design a fall display.

The result?

Let’s just say ChatGPT does not believe in a pumpkin budget.

Cornstalks climbing every column. An arch of autumn leaves framing the door. Pumpkins covering the entire porch.

Mark estimated there must be a hundred pumpkins in the image. I counted — seventy-two.

Totally reasonable, right?

While I didn’t recreate the display exactly, it definitely sparked a few ideas. The concept of extending pumpkins across the entire porch and framing the doorway with foliage was something I hadn’t considered before.

Sometimes the most useful part of a creative tool is simply letting yourself imagine a budget-free version first — then figuring out how to achieve pieces of it in real life.

Halloween House 2025: The Entryway

Inside the house, plum-black vines take center stage.

They wrap the dining room columns, trail across the staircase, and spill along the second-floor gallery. Some of these garlands are new, while others date all the way back to 2018 when I first experimented with spray-painting greenery darker for Halloween

They’ve held up surprisingly well over the years.

The entry table features one of my favorite additions from last year: a charming ghost painting created by my friend Aimee. She insisted it was an easy project — though I’m not entirely convinced.

If painting isn’t your thing, I do have a much simpler spooky DIY on the blog: Elegant Pearl Ghosts.

Nearby you may notice Fred — the resident zombie (and his zombie cat) hanging in the hallway. Naming him made him significantly less frightening.

New this year are the wall bats and floating witch hats that drift down the hallway. They’ve quickly become some of my favorite Halloween additions. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen the hallway decorating posts. The real reveal? Our secret house quirk. It solves the mystery of how I get the witch hats on that Murano glass chandelier.

Yes, that’s a zombie (and his zombie cat) hanging in the hallway. I named him Fred, to downgrade the scary.

Halloween House 2025: The Pretty Room

The Pretty Room continues the overgrown Halloween mood.

Garlands spill across the mantel and breakfront, layered with spiderweb textures and darker accents. Nothing here is new this year — just rearranged in different ways.

Sometimes simply moving decor around creates an entirely fresh look.

A few familiar DIY projects appear here as well, including the painted terracotta pumpkins along the mantel and a pearl ghost displayed on the breakfront in a vintage-style frame.

Of course Samson insisted on appearing in the photos.

Favorite Halloween Decor Details

Some of the most fun Halloween decorating moments are the small details scattered throughout the house.

Night of the Living Room

The scarecrow and his loyal hellhound, Spike, have been quietly waiting in the corner all month — occasionally giving me a small jump scare when I forget they’re there.

On Halloween night they’ll move outside to greet trick-or-treaters.

Our Frame TV also gets to participate in the decor. Switching the screen to seasonal artwork makes it feel like another decorative element in the room.

Nearby, leftover bats from my nephew’s spooky birthday party now appear to fly across the round mirrors on the wall.

The Serpent in the Solarium

The solarium has taken on an especially theatrical Halloween atmosphere this year.

Floating witch hats drift beneath the chandelier, while torn cheesecloth softens the light overhead. I may add even more next year — perhaps a few bats suspended above the lights.

A new addition to the room is the serpent candle holder I originally purchased for a client project… but somehow it never quite made it out of the house.

Strange how that happens.

A Study in Black pumpkins

Dr. Kahn’s study received a sophisticatedly sinister Halloween moment this year with a collection of glossy black pumpkins.

They look like carved marble but are actually blown glass, which makes them lighter and easier on the furniture.

Their moody finish works beautifully with the darker tones in this masculine room.

Killer Cocktails at Bar Lucci

Downstairs at Bar Lucci, the Halloween spirit continues.

A leftover plum-black garland now drapes along the back of the bar, instantly giving the space a darker, more theatrical atmosphere.

Between the bar setup and the lounge seating, this lower level has quietly become the perfect Halloween party venue — which may explain why friends keep suggesting we revive our annual Halloween parties.

Final Stop on the Halloween House Tour

However you’re celebrating Halloween this year, I hope you have a chance to enjoy the magic of the season.

After all, Halloween is really only the beginning of the darker, cozier stretch of autumn.

Happy haunting, friends.
