Halloween at Château Kahn: Vintage Halloween House Tour

It’s that wonderfully spooky time of year again.

Step inside Château Kahn for this year’s vintage Halloween house tour, where antique finds and classic autumn decor create a gothic storybook Halloween atmosphere.

Halloween House Tour: The Entryway

The entryway sets the tone for the entire Halloween house tour.

During one of my thrifting trips I found a beautiful silver teapot that now sits on the entry table, echoing the silver vessel featured in the oil painting above it. Small details like that always make a vignette feel more intentional.

Several other pieces here were also thrifted treasures: the copper vessel filled with Halloween candy, the brass dish holding faux apples, and an antique mortise lock complete with its original key.

If you love the thrill of the hunt as much as I do, I’ve written a post sharing some of my favorite thrifting tips and tricks.

The giant “Book of Spells” on the table is where we stash the Halloween candy for visiting trick-or-treaters. Dr. Kahn had it long before we met — one of the early signs that we were clearly meant to be.

Our shared love of autumn and Halloween has led to some memorable date nights and more than a few legendary Halloween parties at Château Kahn.

Halloween House: The Dining Room

I know this is not a trendy home feature in our modern “open concept” housing, but I have to say. I love having a formal dining room.

Do we eat here every night? No.

Do I decorate and set the table as if we might? Absolutely.

When entertaining occasions arise, I simply give everything a quick wash beforehand — especially important if you share your home with pets.

The antique dining room furniture already lends itself beautifully to a slightly spooky atmosphere. Older furniture has a depth and character that newer pieces often struggle to replicate, even from high-end retailers.

The terracotta chargers on the table are actually a small DIY project. I painted them using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint to give them a richer, aged appearance. It’s an easy technique that works on all sorts of decorative objects.

A few of the newer additions to this table include a charming metal château from Terrain, black scalloped plates from Drew Barrymore’s collection, and a gold flatware set that finally strikes the right balance between modern and traditional.

Halloween House: The Pretty Room

After dinner, the Pretty Room becomes the perfect place to relax by the fire.

A collection of books waits on the table — from Grimm’s Fairy Tales (the darker original versions) to more family-friendly autumn stories — ready for a cozy evening by the hearth.

One of my favorite pieces in this room is the skeleton tray on the coffee table. It originally held a large vase from Pottery Barn that unfortunately cracked in storage. A replacement tray from Amazon fit perfectly, and with a little creative improvisation the piece found new life as a wonderfully spooky candy display.

Some Favorite Halloween Decor Details

As the saying goes, the devil is in the details — and Halloween decorating is full of them.

One of my favorite discoveries this year is the snake-wrapped vase on the table. It’s actually a soap dispenser I found at HomeGoods. I keep hoping to stumble across another one or two because they’re just too good.

The wooden pumpkins were another HomeGoods treasure. I bought several because they transition beautifully from Halloween into Thanksgiving — always a bonus when seasonal decor can work for multiple holidays. If you’re intrigued, I’ve detailed my method for decorating once for Fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving in this post.

The small terracotta pumpkins lined up across the mantel are another DIY project. I painted them at the same time as the dining room chargers using the same chalk paint technique.

Once you start experimenting with that finish, it’s hard not to imagine all the other objects you could transform with it.

A Familiar Face

Can you spot Samson in the photos?

It wouldn’t be a proper decorating session without the cat appearing somewhere in the background. This time he’s stationed in front of our Halloween butler, Alfred, keeping watch.

Final Stop on the Halloween House Tour

I hope you’ve enjoyed this year’s Halloween decorating at Château Kahn.

Wishing you a wonderful autumn season and a very happy Halloween.
