Welcome to our 2022 Christmas home tour at Château Kahn. Come December, our home quickly fills with the scents of vanilla, sugar cookies, and evergreen garlands.
This cozy holiday home tour features simple seasonal decorating ideas throughout the house. Let’s take a look around.

Welcome: Festive Entryway Decor
For the second year in a row, paper stars hang from the second-floor mezzanine, creating a festive welcome. The oversized stars from IKEA are simple, affordable, and surprisingly dramatic when suspended in the open entry.
The entry table holds a few seasonal treasures this year. A recent addition is a beautifully illustrated Scottish storybook by Theresa Breslin and Kate Leiper. A lovely reminder of our unforgettable trip to Scotland.
Nearby, a glass cloche displays a tiny red house, creating a miniature winter vignette. Cloches are one of my favorite decorating tools because they instantly give everyday objects a sense of importance and charm.
Throughout the main level the scent of Vanilla Bean Noel floats in the air. Bath & Body Works’ classic has my favored notes of caramel, sugar cookies, and vanilla bean.

Christmas House Tour: The Pretty Room
The “Pretty Room” earned its name long before the holiday decorations arrived. When my husband’s children were younger, this formal living room was strictly off limits. They were only allowed to admire it from the entryway. The nickname stuck.
This year, the room leans into soft gold and cream accents, led by the festive pillows on the couches. Sometimes the best seasonal finds appear when you aren’t even looking for them.
One distinctive feature of this room is the deer hide draped over the coffee table — affectionately known as “Red.” The hide came from a deer my father harvested during one hunting season in upstate New York. Rather than allowing the hide to go unused, I asked that it be tanned. Now we appreciate it in a different way, within our home.
For those who prefer not to use natural hides, vintage or faux versions can create a similar textural layer.
The lush garland on the mantel came from an end-of-season Balsam Hill sale the previous year. I experimented with flocking it myself. This is a messy but surprisingly satisfying project that allows you to customize exactly how snow-covered the greenery appears.

Also in the Pretty Room: a simple Ode to Winter
Accenting (and not hiding) the marble-topped antique breakfront is a simple display. Architectural lanterns, birch tree slices, mercury glass candle holders, and all the green candles I’ve apparently been hoarding.
Also featured are three DIY decor cone trees in felt, velvet, and yarn. The textures of each are so cozy. Grouped together in the same color they make such a refined textural statement.
A Playful Holiday Living Room

While the Pretty Room leans formal, the living room embraces a lighter, more playful holiday spirit.
Snowmen appear throughout the room. The Christmas tree features bright red and white ornaments alongside cheerful yarn birds.
The slender tree was originally used outdoors on our porch with Santa and his sleigh. But after my first flocking experiment, I loved the result so much it became our indoor living room tree instead.
I attended a group creative studio session and came away with a lovely DIY banner. This banner was created with my wonderfully creative friend Becky Null at her beautiful Carmel, Indiana studio, 317 Home.
If you live in the Indy area and love artistic projects, I highly recommend looking into her events schedule.
The Tour Comes to and End
The holidays always seem to arrive in a joyful whirlwind — filled with cookie baking, family visits, carols, cozy sweaters, and quiet moments beside the tree.
I hope this little glimpse of our home offers some seasonal inspiration for your own decorating.
Wishing you a wonderful holiday season filled with warmth and celebration.
