Looking for apartment design ideas that instantly add personality to a space?
One of my favorite design solutions—whether for a house or an apartment—is a bold accent wall. A single painted wall is one of the quickest ways to transform the mood of a room while keeping the project approachable and budget-friendly.
For this project, the goal was to create a space that felt both comforting and uplifting.
Project Snapshot
Project Type: Apartment Living Room Design
Location: Rental Apartment
Design Style: Global Glam
Key Feature: Wine-colored accent wall
Budget Approach: Mix of existing pieces + thrifted finds

The Design Mission
Transform a cold, impersonal apartment into a cozy and feminine sanctuary for a recently divorced client beginning a new chapter.
The Design Approach
The design focused on creating a warm, inviting atmosphere layered with global-inspired details and touches of subtle glamour.
We explored apartment design ideas that would feel cozy and personal while still encouraging a sense of optimism and possibility.
Travel inspiration became an important theme in the design, reflecting one of my client’s personal goals: seeing more of the world.
Whenever possible, I love incorporating a client’s aspirations into the design of their home. It turns everyday surroundings into quiet reminders of the life they’re building.
Color Palette: Wine & Chocolate
The heart of this design was a rich wine and chocolate color palette, accented with warm metallic gold.
When I introduced the idea to my client, she immediately loved the concept. The colors feel indulgent and comforting while still bringing depth and drama to the space.

Layering Global-Inspired Details
To create the global glam atmosphere my client loved, we mixed pieces she already owned with a few carefully chosen thrifted finds.

Travel postcards became part of the decor by placing them inside vintage glass frames. Using clear photo corners on the back allows the cards to be easily swapped out, creating a rotating gallery of travel inspiration.
It’s a simple detail, but it keeps the space feeling personal and evolving.
Anchoring the Room

A traditional-style oriental rug grounds the living and dining area.
The rich chocolate brown base adds warmth, while the blues and greens woven through the pattern echo other colors used throughout the space.
Textiles like this are often what make a room feel layered and complete.
The Accent Wall
The bold accent wall is what truly transforms the space.
Paint color: Valspar Baked Bahama
This shade hits a sweet spot between cozy and energizing, giving the room depth without making it feel dark or heavy.
It’s proof that even a single design choice can dramatically shift the atmosphere of a room.

“I’m crazy about color. Color embraces you. It wakes you up and keeps you present.”
